Caminar Contigo

To walk with you
a street of rocks
in wet Dublin
where the hat-wearing
turtlenecks and scarfs
local poets
come out of the pubs
just as the lampposts turn on the lights
and we wonder where Flann O'Brien is
It's not so cold
you will say
they will be joining us
for chilly-drops and a view
of the mild sunset.

To walk with you
a street of rocks
in inland México
where the balaclava-wearing
sub-machine guns toting
local policemen
pull up in four trucks
just as the sun is setting in the sky
and we wonder what trouble is upon us
Panic not
you will say
they will be joining us
for ice-cream and a view
of the wild sunset.

Yes, babe
they will take off their balaclavas
to eat the ice-cream
and anonymity will end
I guess.
